As the sun starts to sparkle a bit brighter and the weather gets kinder, you start to feel more ambitious about how to dress for summer.
I spent my entire teenage years watching Sex and the City over and over again. Like other people, I tried my best to be Carrie Bradshaw in real life, wearing heels everywhere I went. Oh My GOD! I remember going to college with heels, not too high, but still who goes to college dressed up? I really don’t know what I was thinking, but now I know that those years were my most hideous times of my whole quarter century life on this planet LOL. I remember my dad complaining about how I was dressed for school almost every week. Oops! Sorry Dad! I guess nobody else had the courage to tell me, Parmida calm your horses down, you are not Carrie and wearing uncomfortable heels 9 hours straight working at retails is painful. I started my very first part-time boutique job when I was seventeen. It basically was a weekend job where I could improve my English by talking to different people (6 months after I came to the States). I never forget that Sunday, it was one hour to closing time when I took my favorite gold heels off because my toes started bleeding. Yes! Don’t judge! I was that stubborn kid that your parents might not want to raise 🙂 . I guess after that bleeding experience, I understood, that it is not just an impossibility that one could get through an entire New York City in 4-inch heels, it is also unrealistic.
Let’s be honest Heels are not practical.
For the upcoming summer I’m sticking to three silhouettes: The lace-up, the flat-form and the slide.
Here is exactly why.
The Lace-up: quite simply there is no shoe more willing to take an unexciting garment and give it character–something about the straps crawling up your leg. Try it, trust me.

The Flat-Form: Okay! If you are tired of wearing flats, and you like your legs to be tall, but comfortable enough to work 10 hours on your feet, Flat-forms are made for you my friend. Well, 90s fashion choices made it easy for us. So why not get a pair of flat- form shoes? They make your outfit seem cooler than it actually is. They go with almost everything in your closet. Any type of jeans? Cool. Slip-on dress? Check. Shorts and mini skirt? Fun!

The Slide: Arguably the easiest shoe to slip your foot into and to pair with your clothes. You can literally name anything and they will go flawlessly with that outfit of choice. Cropped pants? Perfect. Culottes ? go for it. Shorts, mini skirt, and dress? Fabulous. The best part about them is that you really don’t have to spend too much money on them because the cheap ones don’t look cheap (they are slides for God sake!) If you are asking me, your summer slippers should not cost more than a fancy meal out (Don’t tell me your meal cost is $100-200). I mean it’s your choice how much you want to spend, but honestly try not to waste money on slippers.
