These Summer Shorts Make You Forget About Your Sticky Legs

July 11, 2016
Happy Monday beautiful people! I hope you all are having a great first day of the week. About a week ago, we finally made it go to The Museum of Fine Arts Houston to see the Kusama exhibit and rest of the museum. I’m sure most of you guys already know from the Snapchat and Instagram posts. I highly recommend visiting the museum if you are living in Houston. We spent the Sunday visiting the museum and went back on the following Thursday to see the Kusama since it was sold out. So, if you really don’t want to miss seeing the exhibition, I would suggest getting your tickets online in advance.

Okay, enough of the museum story!

If you are down to know about what kind of shorts to invest this summer and more summers coming up, this blog is just for you. 🙂

Do you dream about having longer slimmer legs? If Yes,

We are in the same boat sister. Let’s be honest, most of us weren’t born with Miranda Kerr nice legs. I confess here that I don’t have the nicest long slim legs, but I learned how to play with different garments to give them more of a longer leg model illusion. By now, all you guys know I have a special respect for high-waist pants and skirts. As I said before, they transform your waist to its smallest version and make your legs look slimmer and taller. Even though they are great for all year around, I found my high-waist denim shorts and pants to be the hardest to wear in summer due to the high humidity in Houston. I know you are like me; we just hate having sticky legs in summer. Being said, high-waist flare shorts have been my favorite garment for the past two summers. The A-line shorts does the exact same job as the A-line skirt does. The waist is higher than usual high-waist shorts; it sits around your belly, which means smaller belly and higher waistline. Higher waistline automatically transforms your legs to be taller and slimmer even by wearing flat shoes or sandals. I honestly have people come up to me saying I look taller and trust me, I Love Love Love it.
Therefore dear friend, if you are not having a great relationship with your thighs at this moment and like to have longer legs, say hello to high-waist Wide-legged/Flare shorts this summer. People call these types of shorts all sorts of different names like, surfer shorts, A-line flare shorts or skirted shorts; so, be creative and call them whatever you like. 🙂 Anything to give the impression of an A-line with at least an inch of aperture required between thigh and hem would work. Also, extra bonus point if there is a high-waist because it helps to raise the hip that is dropped low.
The shorts I’m wearing here are almost 2 years old, so it might be little hard to find them, but if I do, I will post them down below for you guys. I honestly don’t remember how many times I wore these shorts since they are so comfortable and easy to style. Even though the fabric is the mix of wool and silk, I have worn them all year around. I know the color black is really hard to wear in summer since it absorbs all the heat, but I guess the flare in these shorts makes everything breezy and cool on the bottom half. So, don’t be so critical about the color especially if the fabric is made out of cotton or silk.
  • Fabric Advice:

As far as the fabric goes, I suggest picking a mix of at least two textiles. What I mean is don’t go and buy %100 cotton or linen, because they will wrinkle up super fast especially when you are driving. What’s more annoying is having wrinkles all over the pleated layers. The shorts will end up looking like a hot mess after 15 minutes into wearing them and your money will swim its way down the drain.

For this outfit, I tried to maintain a casual daywear look. I paired the shorts with a plain white T-shirt and a pair of flat pink sandals just to have a bit of pop of color in the outfit. Since I was wearing a white canvas aka T-shirt on top, I wrapped my big necklace around my neck. After all, we were going to explore the museum; I needed to have my inner Greek goddess out before getting there. 🙂

How to Wear Silk Pattern Pants?

June 17, 2016
As I’m sitting on the plane and writing this blog post, I keep thinking to myself that no matter how many years passes or how many times I get to go back home to visit my family, saying goodbye is always the hardest part of the trip. Nothing is more satisfying than chatting with your friends and family face to face than over face time. I understand that it has been my choice to live in a different state due to many personal reasons, but the feeling of getting choked and the watery eyes as I’m stepping out of my mom’s car every time I’m departing will never let me go…
These past two years, as soon as spring knocks on the door, I get excited to start wearing my silk print pants. The last thing we like specially in summer are sticky clothes hugging our body; so silk makes life easier and makes us enjoy our summer days even more without shaving. 🙂 They are super lightweight, soft, and since the color is light, they don’t absorb any heat. I like wearing these kind of pants with mute tops, regular silk tops to dress them up or crop tops for more of a casual vibe. Surprisingly they go with all different sorts of shoes. I will post some of my favorites from this season right below the post.

Some tips that will help your print pants shopping easier:

To my petite friends:

Since these types of pants could be overwhelming on You, look for the Ankle length tailored ones. That way it’s not too much pants for You. As far as the top goes, since the main focus is the pants, I like to recommend something mute/solid. This way you will look slimmer and slightly taller. From my personal experience with my clients, smaller the prints are better because the big prints can be overpowering sometimes. 🙂

To my tall friends:

You have the advantage of pulling off almost any prints, big or small and wearing looser pants as well as tailored. I would still recommend solid tops unless you like to mix prints, which it needs its own blog post. Also, waist length jackets are perfect to form distinction between your torso and lower half. They also add more proportion to a long torso and will help break up the line of your outfit for added interest. If the sleeves are short, don’t worry, just roll’em up for added style.

I absolutely love wearing leather and denim jackets with my silk pants in Fall Season.

For This Outfit,

I went with a casual weekend look. This casual look is great for Sunday brunch/lunch, shopping, or even a romantic picnic. I love pairing these pants with light grey and bluish purple tops. This time I chose a bluish purple crop top and wore a denim jacket over it. For finishing up the look, I wore a pair of ballet flat shoes with a touch of gold to spice up the look. Last but not least, instead I wearing a handbag I wore my wallet on a chain, which has been worn for over 4 years everyday.

How to Buy Faux Leather Easier?

June 7, 2016
Leather Skirts are those things that you always enjoy to have in your closet. They are very easy to style and you can almost wear them all year around except summer times in most places. At least in my situation, wearing leather in Texas, in the summer, is equal to having two fried thighs with little red bumps all over it, which is very painful and unattractive. My apology to you Texan friends, I guess we might need to wait at least another four months to see leather skirts hugging our thighs again.
Being said, since I’m not able to wear leather skirts as much as I used to wear back in San Francisco due to current climate, I have an excuse of not splurging too much money on them. I must confess that I’ve become best friend with a repeated voice in my head, the famous quote, “ I’m not rich enough to buy cheap things” every time I go shopping. It really has helped me to starve my shopping addiction and finally killed it.
So, to me, investing in a good quality faux leather skirt is more beneficial than investing in the real ones because trust me the money I just save right there looks way better somewhere else in my life than around my legs.

To find a good quality faux leather skirt, I follow some personal tips that I would like to share with you:

  • Never Ever waste your money on low quality faux leather. Set a certain budget, but please don’t buy a skirt because it was very cheap on the clearance rack. Don’t forget quality is always over quantity. I honesty prefer not owning any leather skirt than putting on a low quality faux leather that people can spot the nylon/plastic texture from two miles away.

  • Always feel the texture before buying, choose the ones that are as soft as the real leather. Don’t choose the overly shiny ones because they tend to look more faux and to get pealed off sooner than the matt ones.

  • Closely examine the pores of the fabric. Real leather will have inconsistently placed pores while faux leather will have pores that are in consistent pattern. I generally prefer the faux leather with smaller pores because it supervises to look more real.

  • Always checkout the stitching for anything you buy. I would recommend just taking the skirt and pulled the fabrics apart and make sure the seam is not pulling apart with the fabric. In other words, the stitching should be very tight.

  • Last but not least, we all know faux leather wont smell like leather and sometimes they can smell very chemically, so smell the fabric before buying it and make sure it has no yucky scent to it.

Ok, lets talk about this look:

From my personal experiences, Zara is one of the great stores who makes affordable good quality faux leather garments. I love everything about this skirt. The color is perfect because you can wear it all year around. The little detailed front stitching and the Silver zipper on the back make the skirt more special. The fabric is very soft and the little slit on the back makes walking much easier since the length is just below the knee. The high waist is absolutely perfect for dressing up or down the skirt in different looks. Usually, my maximum budget for this type of skirts is $50, which in this case I ended up being lucky and bought it for less than $30. So, guess what! You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to look stylish.

One last Tip: Don’t buy clothes for yourself; buy them for your Closet.

It means when you go shopping for an item, make sure it goes with the other garments in your wardrobe. In other words, try to make different outfits out of the item you are purchasing. I honestly can say I have worn this skirt in eight different looks so far.
You don’t believe it?
Here are three looks that you can wear in different occasions.

Lazy Days

I would recommend this look when you feel lazy and just want to be comfortable and stylish at the same time.
Great for Sunday Brunch.

90s Fanny Pack | 2016 Belt Bag

May 26, 2016

Remember the 90s favorite accessory, Fanny pack?

Sex and the City Fanny pack

Fanny pack, belt pack, or belly bag is a small fabric pouch usually locked with a zipper or button and worn by use of a strap around the hips or waist. We all remember these bags as the Tourist Bag because people consider them as one of the safest to carry when they travel. Believe it or not, I still spot quite of them at airports especially when I travel internationally. I guess 55 percent of our elementary school kids had them on around the school. Well, lets not forget, on field trips the 55 percent would jump to 90. Of course, I was in that 10 percent cool kid category because I always thought they were just ugly and slouchy plastic bags that were unnecessary to carry since all the kids would carry both backpack on their back and fanny pack around their waist.

uhhhm,

the real story is, I lost my fanny pack when I was 6 years old at a park, where my kindergarten teacher used to take us, on the blue slide. The worst part, was that I had my favorite lipstick in the fanny pack, which I waited patiently for 6 months until it would be the right time for my mom to hand it down to me. By saying “ The right time”, I mean when the lipstick was almost finished.

Heck No,

there was no complain from my side! I was a happy girl who could enjoy the last 3 months of her very first Estee Lauder hot pink lipstick. Luckily, before we know it, by the time we graduated from middle school, the trend was almost over.
Now, everything has changed I’m in love with the evolution of fanny packs, belt bags. They are slimmer and smaller than fanny packs, but fancier. They come in different shapes and fabrics. A great thing about them is, that they have the actual belt straps, so you can wear them with almost anything in your closet. TipsWear them as a belt over jeans and shorts just like you would do with a belt. You can definitely wear them over a dressed shirt, T-shirt or dress.

City Perfect

April 17, 2016
I still can’t believe how beautiful the weather was in San Francisco. I love wandering around the city because every corner feels picture perfect. Let me tell you something, people in SF never get bored. There is always something to do, hiking, surfing, watching sea lions for hours at the pier, visiting the Golden Gate and Bay bridge, museums and Alcatraz, shopping at the heart of the union square and I can go on and on. 🙂 I always suggest to my non-Californian friends to stay at least 5 days in the city to just explore the whole city, and the next upcoming trip take 3 days to adventure the beautiful cities around San Francisco. Every time I go back home, I try to sight see the different part of the city. This time, my family and I decided to visit the Lands End and part of the Golden Gate Park since it is spring and the weather was perfect that day. I mean clear beautiful blue sky and No Fog! 🙂
The weather and the relaxed vibe of the city inspired my casual outfit for the day. What makes a perfect relaxed outfit for me personally is the one that combines comfort and style together flawlessly, and that’s exactly what this ensemble does. I really like the color and texture combination of this outfit. The bright blue denim is complemented nicely by the brown tones of the shirt and shoes. The fringe pants are a great way of blending a fun playfulness with a chic refinement. To me, it’s important to mix and match fabrics when my outfit is a little more minimal and simplistic because I think it keeps a look more interesting. Even the high-waist jeans add another dimension, making it a bit more fashion forward. I chose a Silver bag to break the black and make the bag stand out more.
What do you guys think about the look?
Have a fabulous weekend

Chanel S/S 2016 Haute Couture

January 26, 2016

Chanel 2016 S/S Haute CoutureIt was a gorgeous day in Cocoland today!

Karl Legerfeld  definitely made sure that his show will be the biggest highlight of the Paris fashion week. The venue was a Chanel wooden doll house filled with his favorite dolls. Fate of the honey bee has become a rallying issue for the environment, so Carl made sure to show his support by putting golden honey bees everywhere. As the show went on, everything got lighter and shinier. Carl emphasized more on the silhouette. I love the length of the outfits, very chic and elegant. The rounded sleeve up tops were my favorites!

Here is some of my favorite looks of the show

Culottes Are Cool

January 21, 2016

Culottes are the favorite new addition inmy wardrobe. They are the type of pants you either love or hate and attract the limited type of clientele. I personally love culottes because you can wear them in every season, and they are just one of those fun pieces to have in your closet for the lazy days that you have no idea what to wear!

I always suggest them to my clients because they work with all body types and give a different look to the outfit. Short-waisted culottes can make you look short-legged, so I would recommend high-waisted versions since they are the most flattering. It’s cool to see how you can dress them up or down! Wear it with pumps or booties to dress it up, or wear it with flats and loafers to give it a casual look. I love wearing them with knee-high boots for fall.

In this particular outfit, I went for casual look. I did not try hard at all and it only took me 5 minutes to put the whole outfit together. I find these pants very chic and stylish as they look like a midi-skirt, but if you take a closer look you’ll realize that they’re actually a pair of trousers. My whole goal for this outfit was to show off the pants, so I chose a very simple top.
